Circular illuminated box-frame
The stunning Louise Phillips called in to our workshop late last year to discuss how to present her artwork in a circular, illuminated, etched, deep, aluminium, 1.2m diameter, welded frame. We were happy to assist & set to presenting the best methods & materials for the job, collaborating with Louise to suit her style & needs.
Circular box-frame for artist Louise Phillips
The stunning Louise Phillips called in to our workshop late last year to discuss how to present her artwork in a circular, illuminated, etched, deep, aluminium, 1.2m diameter, welded frame. We were happy to assist & set to presenting the best methods & materials for the job, collaborating with Louise to suit her style & needs.
We also suggested a typography etch as Louise’s trademark signature to the acrylic to echo the restaurant Etch who had commissioned the piece. The text also dedicates the piece to ‘Nyekimber’ – a nod towards both the Nyetimber Vineyard & owner Chef Steve’s lovely wife Kim. Louise Phillips is a Cheshire-based Contemporary Collage Artist working with found & recycled materials.
This particular piece is collage on paper of the vineyard’s bottle labels, cut and layered into a circular design. The piece undulates & needed an internal space within the frame, a depth to the frame enclosure. We fixed the artwork in using museum tags to the reverse of the acrylic, with low reflection gallery glass to the front & the etched acrylic to the reverse, and a profile of thin, strong, ring-rolled aluminium, custom sprayed to the precise shade chosen by Lou.The LEDs were selected for the warm white colour temperature, with a dimming facility. A fader was included for the client to set the level of light for themselves..
Completed frame installed at the Etch Restaurant in Hove, Brighton
The frame was completed in December last year, with a timber-constructed crate to safely house the circular nature of the frame. Lou controlled the courier delivery & installation at the Etch Restaurant in Brighton, and sent us the images below of the completed piece in its final location.
Second & third illuminated pieces in the pipeline …
Lou is currently working on two further pieces – with the Harten Frameworks team on standby to prepare frames in bronze & gold …We are developing a short video of these frames being created in the workshop & will post this as soon as it’s ready. Our newest team member Louise Jeff has presented the draft & is putting the finishing touches together.
