Description

What is Reversable Football Shirt Framing?

At Harten, our football shirt framing is completely reversible, and we use museum grade fixing techniques to ensure there is no damage to your football shirt.

Far too often we have seen signed football shirts come in that have been hot glued or stapled to the frame, completely destroying the investment. We use a number of reversible techniques for attaching your football shirt safely and securely in the frame such as a Foamcore Template pinned to shirt with entomology pins to ensure no damage.

Certificate of Authenticity

If you have a certificate of authenticity, you will want this visible and connected to the frame, the most popular option is a custom viewing section on the reverse of the frame - meaning that both the certificate and the shirt are visible, and protected.

Signed Shirt Protection

Autographed football shirts require specific handling to preserve the signature over decades. Marker pen and permanent ink are vulnerable to UV degradation and moisture, so we position the shirt within the frame to minimise direct light exposure on the signed area. Where possible, we orient the signature away from the glazing surface to reduce UV contact, and we always recommend our highest-grade UV-filtering glass for signed pieces.

During mounting, we handle signed areas with cotton gloves and avoid any adhesive or mechanical fixing near the signature itself. The entomology pin and foamcore template method keeps all attachment points away from the ink, preserving the autograph in the same condition it arrived. If a shirt has multiple signatures, we map each one before designing the mounting layout to ensure every autograph is both visible and protected.

How Long Does Bespoke Football Shirt Framing Take?

Once your project is confirmed, we'll schedule the production time in our workshop based on our current workload, which typically takes about 4 weeks. If you need your shirt framing completed sooner, we may be able to accommodate with a priority service. Please be aware that priority projects sometimes require booking our experts for overtime, which could increase the cost. We'll inform you in advance if this applies and provide a full breakdown of the costs before starting, so there are no surprises!

Framing Options for Football Shirts

Every football shirt framing project is different, and we offer several display methods to suit your shirt and your space. A shadow box frame provides depth for the shirt to sit naturally without being compressed against the glazing, which is our most popular option for match-worn and signed shirts. Floating mounts suspend the shirt on a fabric-wrapped panel so it appears to hover within the frame, creating a clean, contemporary look.

For shirts with a certificate of authenticity, we can design back-access frames with a hinged rear panel so the COA remains visible from behind without opening or disassembling the frame. Front-facing displays work well for shirts you want presented flat with the number and name visible, while folded displays allow you to show both front and back details within a single frame. We design every layout around your specific shirt and what you want to highlight.

How Are We Different From an Amazon Picture Frame?

When framing a football shirt, you may have come across Amazon or another supplier of ready made frames. While there is a place for these frames - if you are framing a valuable or sentimental piece - you need to take into account the following:

Glazing

Cheaper or stock football shirt frames may not come with UV resistant glazing, meaning that your shirt may fade or discolor if placed near natural light. We prioritize keeping your shirt looking perfect for decades to come, with specialist glazing options available for you depending on your specific placement.

Materials

For stock frames - they often cut costs by reducing material quality, which is a good idea if you are after cheap football shirt framing, however if you want peace of mind that your frame is going to last - Harten only uses quality materials, treated to last the test of time and protect your investment, not break prematurely.

Construction

Each project is bespoke, meaning you can specify exact materials or finishes you would like. Want your shirt enclosed in an acrylic box frame? or maybe a welded large frame, flawlessly sprayed a matt black, or left bare to see the metal.

If you get in touch, we can run you through your vision, apply our expertise to ensure your design is followed from design to installation.

Size and Display Options

Football shirts vary considerably in size, and each requires a frame designed to its specific dimensions. Standard adult shirts typically need a frame between 600mm and 750mm wide, while children's and youth shirts are smaller and can be displayed in more compact arrangements. We frame everything from individual shirts to complete kits including shorts, socks, and boots -- each element mounted separately within the same frame.

For collectors with multiple shirts -- home and away from the same season, or a progression of shirts across a player's career -- we design multi-shirt frames that present each piece clearly without crowding. As a manufacturer of oversized frames, there is no size limitation on what we can build. Every frame is made to measure around your specific items.

Caring for Your Framed Football Shirt

Once your football shirt is framed, where you hang it matters. Avoid placing the frame in direct sunlight or above radiators, as prolonged heat and UV exposure will fade both the fabric and any printed or signed elements over time. Even with UV-filtering glazing, reducing direct light exposure extends the life of the shirt significantly.

Clean the frame exterior with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid spraying glass cleaner directly onto the glazing surface, as liquid can wick behind the frame seal and reach the shirt. Instead, spray the cloth and wipe gently. If you use conservation-grade materials and follow these placement guidelines, your framed shirt will remain in excellent condition for decades.

FAQ

Football shirt framing typically starts from around 150 to 200 pounds for a straightforward single-shirt display with standard glazing. The final cost depends on the frame material, glazing specification, whether you need a shadow box or flat mount, and any additional items such as a certificate of authenticity or medal. We provide a detailed quote before starting any work so you know exactly what to expect.

Yes. We use completely reversible mounting techniques, specifically entomology pins through a foamcore template, which means no adhesive or mechanical fixing touches the signed area. We handle all autographed shirts with cotton gloves and position the signature to minimise UV exposure. The shirt can be removed from the frame in the future with no residue or damage to the ink.

We create a custom foamcore template shaped to fit inside your shirt, then pin the shirt to the template using fine entomology pins. This method holds the shirt securely in position without any adhesive, stitching, or stapling. The pins are placed at discreet points that are not visible in the final display, and the entire process is fully reversible — the shirt can be removed at any time without damage.

Absolutely. The most popular option is a viewing panel on the reverse of the frame, allowing the certificate to be seen from behind while the shirt is displayed from the front. We can also mount the certificate alongside the shirt in a larger frame if you prefer both items visible from the same side. Either way, the certificate is mounted using acid-free materials and can be removed without damage.

Every frame is made to measure, so there is no fixed size. As a guide, a standard adult football shirt in a shadow box frame typically measures around 650mm by 800mm, though this varies depending on the shirt size and how it is displayed. Children's shirts, full kits with shorts and socks, or multi-shirt displays will require different dimensions. We measure and design the frame around your specific items.

Yes, we frame children's and youth football shirts regularly. These are popular keepsakes — a first kit, a shirt from a junior team, or a child's signed match shirt. Smaller shirts allow for more compact frame designs, and we can combine them with photos, match programmes, or other memorabilia in a single display.

Yes. We work with clients across the UK. You can post your shirt to our workshop using a tracked, insured delivery service, and we will return the completed frame to you fully packaged and protected. We provide guidance on how to package your shirt safely for transit, and we are happy to arrange collection if you prefer.

Our standard turnaround is approximately 4 weeks from the point your project is confirmed. If you need the frame sooner, we can often accommodate with a priority service, though this may carry an additional cost for overtime scheduling. We will always confirm timescales and any additional costs before starting work.

Yes. Multi-shirt displays are a popular choice for collectors, particularly for home and away shirts from the same season or a series of shirts charting a player's career. We design the layout so each shirt has its own space and can be viewed clearly. As manufacturers of oversized frames, there is no practical size limit — we have built frames holding four or more shirts in a single display.

We offer several UV-protective glazing options depending on your budget and placement. Museum-grade glass from TruVue blocks over 99 percent of UV light and is virtually reflection-free, making it the best choice for signed or match-worn shirts. Standard UV-filtering glass and acrylic options are also available at lower price points. We will recommend the right glazing based on where you plan to hang the frame and the value of the shirt.
