Canvas & Tray Frame Examples

Stretched canvases and tray frames designed and made in the Harten workshop.

A stretched canvas is usually framed without glazing, so the frame itself does all the work. The most popular approach is a tray frame, where the canvas sits inside an L shaped profile with a small shadow gap running around the edge, giving the painting a floating appearance while leaving the whole surface visible.

The examples below cover tray framed canvases in painted, stained and sprayed finishes, floating frames across a range of profiles, and stretcher frames made to exact canvas sizes. Some are compact studio pieces, others are multi metre works made for galleries and public spaces.

Bespoke canvas and tray framing costs around £250. Our canvas and tray framing service covers profiles, finishes and stretching in more detail, or send us a photo of your canvas with its dimensions for a quote.
