Welded Frame Examples

A welded metal frame solves problems timber cannot. Metal holds its line at sizes where wood starts to bow, so a welded frame can run slim and minimal around artwork that would otherwise demand a heavy moulding. It is the construction we reach for when a piece is very large, very heavy or needs a profile measured in millimetres.

The examples below are welded in aluminium, steel and brass, with corners ground and finished so the joint disappears. Finishes run from sprayed colour through brushed and polished metal to patinated bronze effects, and many of these frames were built for oversized canvases and works headed into galleries and public spaces.
