Features
Angled
Angled mirrors create a stunning visual effect that always gets a double-take. This mirror is angled inside the frame, to reflect the image at a different angle. When combined with the floor standing mirror style, the reflection can be perfectly straight, while still leaning against a wall.
Create More Space
Mirrors are perfect for either enlarging small spaces or adding expansive depth to larger rooms.
-
Verre Églomisé
In French it means "glass gilded". The glass has gold/silver leaf applied to the reverse to create a variety of pleasing effects such as an aged patina or smoky clouds. The result is presence and character for your mirror.
-
Floor Standing
A popular trend with larger mirrors is to have them floor standing, leaning against a wall. We can provide this style for you, with custom finishes and sizing.
-
Custom Mirror Sections
For a true designer aesthetic, the mirror can be divided into sections with specially finished panels, adding depth and visual structure to larger mirrors.

Description
What Are Made to Measure Mirrors?
Bespoke Framed Mirrors — Custom Mirror Frames for Every Space
A made to measure mirror is designed and crafted specifically for your space. Unlike off-the-shelf mirrors, every element is customised — from the frame profile and finish to the exact dimensions of the mirror glass itself.
We work with a range of mirror types including standard silver mirror, low-iron mirror for truer colour reflection, and antiqued mirror for a vintage aesthetic. Each mirror is cut to your specification and fitted into a handmade frame built in our workshop.
Custom mirrors are popular for hallways, living rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms and commercial spaces such as hotels, restaurants and retail environments. Whether you need a single statement piece or a series of mirrors for a project, we can accommodate any size or shape.
The process starts with a free consultation where we discuss your requirements, the space, and your preferred style. We then advise on frame profiles, finishes and mirror types to create something that perfectly complements your interior.
Pricing for custom framed mirrors depends on the size of mirror, frame profile, finish, and mirror type. Projects typically start from around £400. Contact us for a free, no-obligation quote tailored to your project.
Our custom mirrors are popular with individuals choosing bespoke mirror frames for their homes and interior designers specifying custom mirrors for residential and commercial projects.
Why Choose a Custom Mirror Frame?
Off-the-shelf mirrors come in fixed sizes and limited finishes. A custom mirror frame lets you match the exact dimensions of your wall, alcove, or feature space. You choose the frame profile — from slim contemporary mouldings to deep ornate profiles — and the finish is applied by hand in our workshop. The result is a framed mirror that looks like it was made for the room, because it was.
Mirror Glass Options
The mirror glass you choose has a significant effect on the finished piece. Standard silver mirror is the most common choice and provides a bright, clear reflection. Low-iron mirror uses glass with reduced iron content, which eliminates the faint green tint found in standard mirror — this is the best option when true colour accuracy matters, such as in dressing rooms or spaces where you assess outfit colours. Antiqued mirror has a deliberately aged, mottled surface that creates a decorative, vintage effect. Tinted mirror options — including bronze and grey — offer a softer, warmer reflection that works well as a design feature. All mirror glass is cut to your exact dimensions.
Sizing Your Custom Mirror
We make mirrors to any size, from small decorative pieces for shelves and mantlepieces to large statement mirrors several metres wide. There are no standard sizes — every mirror is built to your exact specification. For very large mirrors, we advise on maximum practical dimensions based on the mirror glass weight, wall structure, and safe handling during installation.
Mirror Frame Profiles and Materials
The frame profile you choose affects how the mirror looks on the wall. A slim, flat profile creates a clean, modern appearance that draws attention to the mirror itself. A wider profile with a shaped moulding adds visual weight and makes the mirror feel more substantial — this works well for statement pieces in hallways and above fireplaces. Deep profiles create shadow and depth, while bevelled or stepped profiles add subtle detail.
Our mirror frames are built from solid hardwood, primarily Tulipwood, which is stable, lightweight, and takes finishes beautifully. We can also work with Oak, American Black Walnut, and Beech for natural wood finishes where the grain is a feature of the design.
Shape Options
Most custom mirrors are rectangular, but we also make arched mirrors, circular mirrors, and mirrors with shaped tops. Arched mirrors are particularly popular for hallways and above console tables. If you have a specific shape in mind, get in touch — if we can build the frame, we can fit the mirror.

Construction
How Are Custom Mirrors Made?
The bespoke mirror-making process, from selecting the glass to building and finishing the frame.
Mirror Glass Types
The first decision in making a custom mirror is choosing the glass. Standard silver mirror is a float glass with a reflective silver coating — it provides a bright, clear reflection and is the most popular choice. Low-iron mirror uses a purer glass with reduced iron oxide content, eliminating the faint green edge tint visible in standard mirror. This produces a truer, more neutral reflection and is the preferred option when colour accuracy is important.
Antiqued mirror is created by chemically treating the reflective coating to produce an aged, patinated surface with dark spots and cloudy areas. The effect varies from subtle to dramatic depending on the treatment. Tinted mirror glass — available in bronze and grey — absorbs some light before reflecting it, producing a warmer or cooler tone. All mirror glass is cut to exact dimensions using precision cutting equipment, and edges are polished smooth before fitting into the frame.
Frame Construction for Mirrors
Mirror frames are built differently from standard picture frames. The frame must support the weight of the mirror glass, which is substantially heavier than glazing or artwork. We use solid hardwood — typically Tulipwood — with joints that are both glued and reinforced. The rebate depth is calculated to accommodate the mirror glass thickness plus a backing board, and the frame is constructed with sufficient structural strength for safe wall mounting. For large mirrors, we add additional reinforcement to the corners and may include a subframe to prevent flexing.
Finishing for Mirrors
The finish on a mirror frame is especially important because it interacts with the reflected light in the room. Painted finishes — sprayed for a smooth, even surface — are the most popular choice. We can match any colour, from classic whites and blacks to bold feature colours. Natural wood stains allow the grain to show through, and work well in rooms with existing woodwork. Gilded finishes (gold or silver leaf applied by hand) create a traditional, decorative effect. Lacquered finishes produce a high-gloss surface that reflects light alongside the mirror itself. We can also apply waxed or matt finishes for a more understated appearance.
Installation and Hanging
Large custom mirrors require careful wall mounting. We fit French cleats to mirrors above a certain weight — this system uses two interlocking battens (one fixed to the wall, one to the frame) that distribute the load evenly and allow precise positioning. For lighter mirrors, we use D-rings with appropriate wall fixings. The wall type matters: plasterboard, brick, and stone each require different fixings to ensure the mirror is secure. We supply all fittings with every mirror and include clear hanging instructions. For very large or heavy mirrors, we recommend professional installation and can advise on local options.
“Thank you so much - they look great and I am sure my client will be thrilled. The quality is superb too - I am very pleased with them, so thank you and your team for their hard work on them. ”

Common questions about custom framed mirrors

Yes, we can create a frame for an existing mirror. We will need to assess the mirror to determine the best approach for fitting and securing it safely within the new frame. Get in touch and we can discuss the options.

The full range of our frame finishes is available — sprayed colours, natural wood stains, gilding, hand-painted, gesso, and waxed finishes. We can also use raw woods like Tulipwood, Beech, Oak, and American Black Walnut. The frame is completely customised to suit your interior.
-
Yes. We regularly supply custom mirrors to hotels, restaurants, offices, and retail spaces. We can handle projects requiring multiple mirrors in consistent finishes and sizes. Interior designers are welcome to get in touch to discuss trade projects.
-
Start by considering the style of the room — a slim, clean profile suits modern interiors while a wider, shaped moulding complements traditional spaces. Frame width relative to mirror size matters too: a very narrow frame on a large mirror can look insubstantial, while a wide frame on a small mirror can overwhelm it. The finish should complement your existing decor. We discuss all of these considerations during the free consultation and can suggest mirror frame options based on your space.
-
We offer four main types of mirror glass. Standard silver mirror provides a bright, clear reflection and is the most popular choice. Low-iron mirror eliminates the faint green tint found in standard glass, giving a truer colour reflection. Antiqued mirror has a deliberately aged, mottled surface for a vintage decorative effect. Tinted mirror (bronze or grey) produces a warmer or cooler tone. All mirrors are cut to your exact size.
-
Yes. Bathroom mirrors require a moisture-resistant backing board and sealed edges to protect the reflective coating from humidity damage. We use appropriate frame materials and finishes that withstand humid environments — sprayed or lacquered finishes are particularly suitable as they seal the wood completely. We also advise on fixings appropriate for tiled or plastered bathroom walls.
-
As a general guide, a mirror should be roughly two-thirds to three-quarters the width of the furniture or feature it sits above — such as a console table, mantelpiece, or sideboard. For full-length mirrors, allow at least 120cm in height. For feature walls without furniture, the mirror can be as large as the space allows. We make mirrors to any size and can advise on proportions during your consultation.
