Opening on March 9th 2018 at HOME, Manchester, this collaborative exhibition by Tom & Mario explores the legacy of stone through a dialogue between drawing and photography; how people have shaped, and in turn, been shaped by this material.
Mario Popham is a photographer currently based in Manchester. He received a B.A. Honours at Manchester School of Art in 2007, and currently studies man’s relationship to nature and the post-industrial British landscape.
Tom Baskeyfield is a multi disciplinary visual artist investigating relationships between people and place. In 2011 he was awarded an MA in Art and Environment from Falmouth University for the project Of Time in Field, an experimental immersion in the life of an earth field for one crop cycle.
In collaboration with the artists, Harten Frameworks are proud to be making the frames to present this body of work. Mario’s photography frames will be completed with 70% uv filtered reflection control ‘invisible’ UV Gallery Glass and a bareface tulipwood profile, splined and fine-sanded, with Tom completing the finish to the exhibition profiles in our workshop in a black carbon-casein handmixed paint, to further link the exhibition to the place & people that inspired it. All the pieces in the exhibition are being framed & finished in the same way, with an exciting & innovative hanging formation.
As a unique addition, Tom has requested that his frames be multi-angled to fit his beautifully intense drawn artwork, which has our lead-framer really excited in this project.
Our photographer, Louise Jeff, has been commissioned to take video clips & stills of the pieces as they progress through the workshop, and we will be posting these in a follow-up blog.
